wara
state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chairman, Barrister Akogun Oyedepo has
berated the Kwara state House of Assembly
over their resolution to proscribe political programmes on all radio stations
in the state.
Barrister
Oyedepo, Tuesday, made his position known on the issue while featuring on a
political programme on one of the radio stations in Ilorin, kwara state
capital.
The
chairman noted that political programme was pioneered in the state by their
party and it is in accordance with democratic system of government to sensitize
the masses on their right to have access to dividends of democracy.
The
former legislature alleged that lawmakers in the state that were saddled with
the responsibility of checkmating the activities of the government are doing
nothing, hence the need to come up with
the programme across all radio stations in the state.
“I
am not surprised that both the Legislatures and the Executives in Kwara state
are the same, they were to be protecting the masses but not doing so”
He
affirmed that on no account must the legislature stop their programmes on radio
and their political struggle, nothing that all efforts put in place to stop the
programme would definitely fail.
The
Chairman however commended some lawyers, human right activists and the general
public in the state who have magnanimously taken up the matter since the said
resolution emerged.
It
would be recalled that on the 23rd day of January, 2018, the Kwara state
house of Assembly made a resolution that political programmes where in one
political party criticizes activities of another political party should not be transmitted
live in any broadcast station within the state.
