ENABLING ENVIRONMENT WILL BOOST MINING SECTOR IN KWARA – KWHA

wara  state House of Assembly wants the State Government to create a conducive environment for investors in the mining sector in the state with a view to generate revenue from the infrastructures provided . 
 
This followed consideration of a motion titled "Curbing Activities of Illegal Miners in Kwara State" sponsored by Jimoh Akanni

The house also called on the state government to come up with policies that would check activities of illegal miners and encourage investors to secure mining license from the federal government .

It implored the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to immediately constitute a mining committee known as the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee as provided for by section nineteen of the Nigeria Minerals Mining Act of year 2007.

The lawmakers charged security agencies in the state to swing into action by sealing off all illegal mining sites with a view to restore legal mining activities.

 In the meantime, the State Ministry of Solid Mineral is expected to liase with appropriate committee of the house on policies, Programmes and challenges facing the exploration of solid mineral deposit in the state with a view to find lasting solution to challenges of mining.

Speaking after considering the motion, the speaker, house, Dr Ali Ahmad,described the motion as a standard one which deserved the attention of the state government to boost the revenue generation and lauded the movers.

A five member committee including the house committee on Commerce and Solid Minerals are to meet Governor Ahmed with the house resolutions on the matter for discussions and further action.
