Dr Uche Ukwor, Senior Registrar, Department of Paediatrics, Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, has advised the public to maintain proper hygiene and adopt healthy lifestyle to avoid contracting diseases associated with Hammatan season.
The medical expert gave the advice
in an interview with newsmen in Abakaliki on Thursday.
Ukwor said that apart from climate change and untidy environment, Hammatan season exposed people to cold, cough, sinunsis and catarrh with other diseases of the lungs. “I want to advise the people to practice good personal hygiene and maintain proper hand washing to break the chain of transmission. “Symptoms can come as cold, body pain, running nose, fever with others signs, but one is advised to see a doctor immediately to take proper test, examination and diagnosis with treatment, “he said.

He also called on the people, who
are allergic to dust and cold to ensure adequate protection and cautioned them
