EXPERTS IDENTIFIES BEE KEEPING AS A
VIABLE SOURCE OF INCOME FOR UNEMPLOYED YOUTH

Since 2009, every third Saturday of August has been
set as aside as National Honey Bee Day, it is a day started by beekeepers in
United States to build awareness of the bee industry, through education and
promotion.
It is on this premise that made stakeholders in bee
keeping gathered at University of Ilorin to brainstorm on the importance of bee
and its products.
Speaking at the workshop, the host, a lecturer of
Animal Production, Professor Moshood Belewu who enumerated importance of bee noted
that regular intake of original honey bee has no side effect and advised young
people to go into its cultivation to reduce unemployment.
Speaking in the same vein, Kwara State coordinator
of NYSC, Mr Etim Enyenihi who was represented by Head of CDS, Mr. Tunji Yusuph
who identified bee keeping business as source of income advised youth to
utilize the opportunity.
In his submission, Vice-chancellor, University of Ilorin who was represented by Deputy
Vice-chancellor, Research, Technology and Innovation, Professor Gabriel
Olatunji said the institution as part of its social responsibility was ready to
collaborate with researchers to convert their research efforts to business
venture to improve quality of lives. Read more
